Attic conversion and renovation of the family bathroom of a five bedroomed house in Cambridge. The client was planning an attic conversion to create a main bedroom suite with walk in wardrobe, en suite bathroom and office space as a calming retreat from busy family life.
The attic scheme used a soft scheme of complementary muted colours to create a feeling of sanctuary and hotel-style luxury. The existing brick arch on the external wall was retained and echoed with a new archway from the bedroom into the dressing room area and an area of tongue and groove panelling in the bedroom allowed for a useful shelf above the bed area.
The bedroom was painted in Paint & Paper Library Lusi, a muted green neutral and contrasted with Farrow & Ball Dead Salmon in the dressing room area. The en suite continues the green theme with the slightly stronger Hornblende shade whilst the family bathroom scheme has a more playful feel with patterned floor tiles, Little Greene James on one side of the room and the existing unfinished window retained.

Renovation of a family kitchen in a five bedroomed house in Pinewood, Ipswich. The owners were planning to knock through from a small kitchen into the adjacent dining room to create a large open plan area for modern family living.
The scheme focused on the use of pinks and greens to create a space that felt tranquil with unexpected pops of colour and pattern throughout.
The bespoke plywood kitchen has been painted in Little Greene Rubine’s Ashes, a soft grey with a hint of mauve and is contrasted with oak veneer to break up the lines and give a softer look. The background colour is Wevet by Farrow & Ball with accents in Little Greene Ambleside and Hellebore.
The pendants over the peninsula are a vintage find from Skinflint Lighting and the worktops are a combination of practical and beautiful white quartz with a soft grey vein and oak to bring more warmth into the room. Copper accents in the cabinet rails and the kitchen tap complete the look.
In the bathroom the focus of the scheme was on creating a room with a calm and restful feel but which would also be practical for everyday family use.
The key element of the design was a single wall of Eucalyptus Lily Pad hexagonal tiles from Ca Pietra which step down over the vanity area and have an unfinished edge accentuating their shape. The vanity cabinet, with Superfront doors, is also a key feature. The scheme is enhanced by simple Farrow & Ball colours – Wevet and Dropcloth – neutral mosaic floor tiles from Topps Tiles with brass taps and shower from Lusso Stone.

Renovation of a bathroom and cloakroom in a four bedroomed Arts and Crafts home in Cambridge. The home had been renovated over time but the family bathroom and downstairs WC had never been touched and were in need of a design refresh to give them a feel more in keeping with the rest of the house.
In the family bathroom we focused on creating a subtle scheme which was stylish but practical for a family of four and which made better use of the space than the existing. The design of the downstairs cloakroom created a similarly subtle feel and offered an opportunity to utilise William Morris pattern to embrace the Arts and Crafts era of the house.
The design used pared-colour on the walls, combined with a blue patterned floor. The centrepiece of the room is the new traditional-style free standing bath and the opportunity was taken to add a significant amount of storage with a double vanity as well as niche shelving in both the shower and bath areas. To avoid creating an overly traditional and fussy feel, more modern brassware was used throughout as well as large format marble-style porcelain tiles in the large walk-in shower.

Renovation of the ground floor of a semi-detached house in Bromeswell, Ipswich. The owners were planning a rear extension and internal remodel to create a large open plan kitchen, dining and living area to the rear. They wanted to create a room with a unique feel, but which also complemented the other areas in the house that had already been renovated.
The scheme focused on creating a sociable space with a large and impactful kitchen area and on incorporating some of the colours used elsewhere in the house to create a cohesive feel.
The design included Farrow & Ball colours including De Nimes as a feature wall in the living area and for the chimney area in the kitchen which was retained for a range cooker.
The key features of the kitchen space were, however, the large island, tiled with encaustic tiles from Bert and May, as well as the aged copper splashbacks above the cooking and preparation area. The black colour of the kitchen units allowed these key features to take centre stage.

Renovation of a four bedroomed house on Guilbert Road, Arbury. The clients were undertaking a basement conversion to create a playroom, bedroom and en suite as well as reconfiguring the kitchen and dining area to create a better space for a growing family and for socialising.
The kitchen space in particular was causing headaches for the family who were having difficulty envisaging the optimum layout to make best use the space. We looked at three or four different possible layouts placing the kitchen in different areas of the room to help with making the final decision. We then designed a scheme with a classic feel in the kitchen, incorporating ample storage with luxurious finishes. In the basement we helped design a flexible layout which would act as a playroom as well as a space for socialising in the summer months.
In the kitchen the starting point was a large island to create a very social kitchen space in Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue. This was contrasted with tall oak veneered units to one side of the kitchen as well as an oak herringbone floor. Brass finishes, including a range of ceiling mounted and pendant lighting, and full height tiling behind the main kitchen run area add a touch of luxury and enhance the colours in the scheme.
